Giving Tuesday at Understood
Understood’s mission — to shape a world where every person, particularly the 1 in 5 people with learning and thinking differences, can thrive — is crucial. Generating effective change means working with others who can also influence the impact we can make.
This year on Giving Tuesday, Understood is taking a moment to reflect on the power and importance of working with and alongside others.
Together with partners and other collaborators, Understood has sought to make a definitive difference in the lives of those with learning and thinking differences. Over the past year, a few of these meaningful collaborations include:
Working with Along, a nonprofit organization founded and led by educators. With the support of the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI), Understood was honored to be one of the partners that helped design and review content for Along through the lens of accessibility and usability with the ultimate goal of ensuring a seamless experience for all learners.
2021 marked year two of Take N.O.T.E.: a web-based interactive guide developed in partnership with the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) to help families and teachers identify the signs of possible learning and thinking differences in their children.
In partnership with UnidosUS, the largest Latino civil rights and advocacy organization in the United States, Understood conducted a study focusing on understanding the perspectives, anticipated challenges, and preparedness of teachers, parents, and students as they headed back to school this fall.
Understood and National PTA teamed up with EducationWeek to present a webinar supporting parent-teacher collaboration as it relates to learning and thinking differences, including sharing resources like our conversation guides around learning and thinking differences.
We are thankful for these organizations and invite you to join Understood’s journey this Giving Tuesday by donating to our mission in support of people with learning and thinking differences or working with us as we explore the possibilities of shaping our world together.
